If you plan on setting off fireworks in Salt Lake County this summer -- a detailed interactive map from Unified Fire Authority shows where you can legally do so.

The map is the result of 2018's House Bill 38, which "amended and clarified" when and where Utahns can set off fireworks.

A sea of red shows restricted areas where fireworks are illegal. The map only shows restricted areas in Salt Lake County and small parts of Utah and Davis counties.

The map is very detailed, showing restrictions down to the block.

Most parks are off limits, as are the mountainous ares surrounding the valley.

You can click on each individual red area to see the area's jurisdiction and a non-emergency contact phone number, where you can get more detailed firework restrictions for your area.

Even though fireworks are on sale through July 25, there are only certain dates you can use them, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety:

July 2-July 5

  • 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Except for July 4 when they can be used until midnight

July 22-25

  • 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Except for July 24 when they can be used until midnight.
