Friday's football game between Bingham and Weber high schools has been cancelled after players tested positive for COVID-19.
According to spokeswoman Sandy Riesgraf from the Jordan School District, three players on Bingham's team tested positive for the virus that is part of a global pandemic. The players in contact with those who were confirmed to be infected by test have been quarantined. In Utah the virus has killed 351 people, adds case counts daily and deaths almost daily. Government and health officials shut down schools last spring and the virus has put many out of work, hurting Utah's economy.
The situation was discussed with the Weber County School District and "out of an abundance of caution" the game was cancelled.
The Weber Warriors were scheduled to travel to play at Bingham High School Friday at 7 p.m.
Tuesday the Pac-12 athletic conference, of which the University of Utah is a member, shut down its football season, along with other falls sports through at least the 2020 calendar year. Other college athletic conferences shut down, including the Mountain West, where Utah State University plays. Previously, Weber State and Southern Utah University shut down their respective football seasons.
