(KUTV) -- Brigham Young University Cougars and the University of Utah Utes rolled up their sleeves to battle - giving blood.
The long-time rivals challenged each other in a blood drive called the, "Blood Battle," to see which university could collect the most life-saving blood donations.
Fans and area residents also participated in the friendly competition, not only to claim bragging rights but to help save lives.
According to the American Red Cross, university blood drives play a critical role in ensuring an adequate community blood supply.
Blood donations at high school and college drives account for as much as 20 percent of donations during the school year, the Red Cross said in a press release.
