Former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty is coming through the Beehive State on his 25th-anniversary charity ride.
Petty is committed to his philanthropic work with an initial road trip that has now turned into the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America.
According to Nascar.com, among this year’s participants are his father, “The King” Richard Petty, current Monster Energy Series driver David Ragan, and former drivers Donnie Allison.
Petty will also have support from NBC Sports colleagues Rick Allen, Krista Voda and Rutledge Wood. Hershel McGriff, a NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee, also plans to join the ride at age 91, Nascar reports.
Petty is expected to arrive in Uintah County on Sunday morning. He is expected to be joined by 250 people and 150 motorcycles, according to a Facebook post by the Uintah County Sheriff's Office.
The social media post said motorcyclists with the charity ride are arriving beginning at 10 a.m. with plans to leave for Glenwood Springs, Colo., by 12:30 p.m.
The charity ride has had more than 8,400 riders participate over the quarter of a century it has been in existence.
They've logged 12 million cumulative motorcycle miles and raised more than $18.5 million for Victory Junction and other children's charities.
Petty said in a prepared statement:
This year’s route is special because we’re bringing back a few of our favorite Ride stops from past years, like Glenwood Springs, Santa Fe and Childress, but we’re also adding in a bunch of new places that our Riders will love. I may be biased, but I believe this year’s Ride will be the best ever! We’ve gone north to south and west to east, but never corner to corner. Seattle to the Keys is a bucket list ride and I can’t wait to knock it off my list and help our Riders do the same.
The ride starts Friday in Seattle, Washington and concludes May 9 in Key Largo, Florida.
