UPDATE (4:22 p.m. Thursday) — Terran Butler has been safely located in Coos Bay, Oregon, according to the Unified Police Department. His mother is in police custody.
"This is still an active investigation, so we are unable to release additional details, but wanted to inform the public, who has been extremely helpful in providing and sharing information in this case, that he has been found safe," UPD stated in a tweet.
Coos Bay is approximately 68 miles due west of Roseburg, Oregon, where police said Jolley and Butler might be earlier on Thursday.
(Original report continues) — Terran Butler was last seen in the Millcreek area on Saturday during a court-supervised visit with his biological mother, Jolley.
Police say Jolley is believed to be in Oregon with a friend, 56-year-old Bonnie Jackson. The vehicle they are believed to be traveling in is a blue 2015 Honda Civic with the Utah license plate X3171WW.
When Butler's father attempted to pick up his son from the visit, Jolley allegedly had taken the boy without consent. Jolley's mother, Larain Jolley, was arrested for allegedly helping her daughter take the child.
Timothy Butler told 2News he was never married to Jolley and that after years of custody battles and attempts at shared custody, Utah courts awarded him full custody of Terran. He said he started facilitating supervised visits with Terran and his mom about a year ago.
He said Jolley is part of an extremist group that doesn't recognize the government and believes laws don’t apply to them.
The FBI, Lincoln County authorities and the Unified Police Department are working on the case.
