A little girl from Kearns got a second chance at celebrating her party tonight after no one showed up to the first one.
Jhazary Sereno turned nine on June 7th. She has Down syndrome and her mother, Nancy Alejo, says the friends she invited, didn’t come. Understandably, that left the little girl upset. Her older sister posted about it online and it got a lot of attention on social media.
Members of the Kearns High School girls basketball team spotted the tweet and stepped up to throw Jhazary a new party--which took place Thursday night at West View Park in West Valley.
Amongst all the gifts, balloons and streamers there was another surprise. Locals, Tony and Natalie Parks, heard about what happened and decided to step in to sponsor Jhazary and her mother for a trip to California on Friday. It’s part of their “B is for Brooklyn” event, in honor of their own little girl who died in 2013 at just one day old. The trip will bring 60 special needs children together in Oakland for lots of treats, including an Oakland A’s game. Jhazary will be the only child from Utah.
