SANDY, Utah (KUTV) - A Utah man got locked inside a place he never thought closed: a 24 Hour Fitness gym.

Dan Hill posted about the experience on his Facebook page, saying "doesn't the name suggest that they stay open 24 hours?"

While Hill was swimming laps late Saturday night, employees locked the doors of the gym at 1300 East and 10300 South and went home.

The Utah man said he called Sandy dispatch, then his wife.

"I called my wife. She said find a comfortable place to sleep. LOL"

Just before 1 a.m., Sandy police came to the gym to let Hill out.

"Free at last! Free at last! Thanks to three nice cops I am free at last," he wrote on Facebook.

After the experience and his post went viral, Hill said despite the "fuss" he still loves his now "20" Hour Fitness.

"So I've felt bad about any poor publicity I may have caused," Hill wrote on Facebook. "Despite all the fuss, I still love my 24 (even if it is now my 20). Maybe this is a workable solution."
