(KUTV) - The 2019 Vans Park Series World Championship took place in Salt Lake City on Saturday, September 7th. Skate legend Tony Hawk was at the big competition. The event happened at the brand-new Vans Utah Sports Commission Skatepark. The facility was built for the community by Vans and California Skateparks.
In an interview with Dave Fox, Hawk said, “I think it’s a great opportunity to grow skateboarding on a global scale.”
The Salt Lake City park is the last of three new parks that the Van Park Series has donated to communities around the world during this 2019 tour season.
“We’re leaving something behind that’s way bigger than the competition itself,” says Vans Global Marketing Director, Bobby Gascon.
Tristan Rennie, placed 3rd in this year’s competition. When asked about returning to Utah for future competitions he said, “if I have the chance to come back, I’ll definitely come back.”
