A lot of Utahns already knew Donovan Mitchell has a big heart, but now the second-year Utah Jazz guard has been named a finalist for this season's NBA Cares Community Assist Award.

Mitchell is one of 10 nominees for the honor that recognizes a player's "strong commitment to positively impacting their communities through sustained efforts over the course of the season," according to a press release.

Fan voting opened today on social media and ends Sunday, May 5 at 9:59 p.m. Mountain Time. To vote for Mitchell, tweets using the hashtags #NBACommunityAssist and #DonovanMitchell or @spidamitchell. Retweets also count as votes. Players like LeBron James, with a massive social media following, will be difficult to beat. Fans can also vote at Jebbit.com.

Damian Lillard, former Weber State player, is also on the list and just hit a series clinching shot last night to get plenty of social media attention.

All ten finalists can be found and voted for at data platform Jebbit where each of the 10 finalist are featured in a video. On the first and last day of voting — today and May 5 — a vote counts twice. The final winner will be selected by an NBA executive panel and the fan vote.

The winner gets the community award and $25,000 to donate to the charity of his choice. Mitchell would donate the money to his Spidacares Foundation.

Mitchell's community contributions for this season includes:

  • Launching the Spidacares Foundation
  • Awarding a $25,000 scholarship to the daughter of his fourth-grade teacher
  • Joined his team to address fan behavior, including "Solidarity" t-shirts worn by his team and the opposition
  • Gave away autographed shoes to a fan before every game, home and away
  • Stops at high school and college sporting events, holiday barbecues, random acts of kindness
  • Joined teammates at a visit to Primary Children's Hospital, spending time with families and young patients
  • Went with Ekpe Udoh to visit high school students at West High
  • Donated 300 backpacks to Kearns High while speaking about the importance of an education
  • Hosted 300 youth at two sessions of his basketball camp and provided 10 scholarships for children in need to attend the camp; emphasized character to young athletes
