(KUTV) - The Utah Wheelin’ Jazz are represent the Utah Jazz as a member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA), competing as a nationally ranked team in the Championship Division. The team began in the early 1980s and competes in regional tournaments with annual goal of qualifying for national tournament. The Wheelin' Jazz are a non-profit organization that provides physical, social, and emotional therapy to individuals with a physical disability through participation in high-level athletic competition. They have produced three men's Paralympic athletes, including a gold medalist, and four men's national team players.
On a recent edition of Talkin’ Sports, teammates Aaron Summerill, Spencer Heslop and Ryan Nelson joined Adam Mikulich in the 2 News studios to talk about an upcoming event set for Taylorsville High School. Saturday January 11th they are holding a Blue & Green scrimmage there to show off their skills to a local community, and will also be accepting donations to try and raise money for things like travel and even adding another roster spot.
