Full interview: 'Scared as s**t,' Donovan Mitchell recalls terrifying Jazz flight

Utah Jazz All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell recounts terrifying moments about Utah Jazz flight that hit birds shortly after takeoff in Salt Lake City. (NBA)

Donovan Mitchell has made it no secret that he has a fear of flying, and that fear became fully realized when a chartered plane carrying the Utah Jazz to Memphis to play the Grizzlies hit birds shortly after takeoff, causing the plane to make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City.

Everyone on the team, except Mitchell, was back on another chartered flight that same day. Mitchell missed the next game for "personal reasons."

Mitchell said that about five to ten minutes after take off, everyone heard a loud boom that he said sounded like an explosion at the back of the plane.

I got scared as sh*t because I hate flying in general, and it didn't sound good... I got to texting my mom and my sister and my dad just kind of saying, 'yo, this could be it.'"

Mitchell told them about the incident saying no one really knew what was going on and that he loved them.
