With thousands more Utahns being screened for COVID-19 daily, Intermountain Healthcare announced Wednesday it will expand testing efforts.
The healthcare provider will collect as many as 1,500 samples every day at its 20 curbside testing locations, and hopes to turn out more than 1,000 test results per day.
The 20 testing sites are at locations throughout the state, so the impact of the increased testing should be felt in many communities.
More than 9,000 people have already been tested for the virus by Intermountain since March 16, according to Rebekah Couper-Noles, the company's vice president of operations.
Intermountain does request that Utahns with symptoms of the virus call ahead before making their way to a testing site. Symptoms can be checked with the company's online symptom checker or by calling its COVID-19 hotline at 844-442-5224.
“By calling ahead, a medical professional can assess your symptoms over the phone and determine if you should be tested for COVID-19,” Couper-Noles said. “Calling ahead is not required for testing but is highly recommend to save you time and help our team of caregivers prepare for your visit.”
Calling ahead can also help healthcare providers prioritize testing for those who are most vulnerable, like people over 50 and individuals who are immunocompromised.
